Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Jibril (Gabriel) came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “O Muhammad (ﷺ)! Do you feel sick?” He (ﷺ) said, “Yes.” Jibril supplicated thus (i.e., he performed Ruqyah): “Bismillahi arqika, min kulli shay’in yu’dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘ayni hasidi, Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika. [With the Name of Allah. I recite over you (to cleanse you) from all that troubles you, and from every harmful mischief and from the evil of the eyes of an envier. Allah will cure you; and with the Name of Allah, I recite over you].”

‘A’isha (the wife of Allah’s Apostle) said:

When Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) fell ill, Gabriel used to recite this: “In the name of Allah, may He cure you from all kinds of illnesses and safeguard you from the evil of a jealous one when he feels jealous and from the evil influence of eye.”

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to treat with a Ruqya saying, “O the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble The cure is in Your Hands, and there is none except You who can remove it (the disease) . “

Abu ‘Abdullah bin Abul-‘as (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

I complained to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about a pain I had in my body. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Place your hand where you feel pain and say: ‘Bismillah (With the Name of Allah)’ three times; and then repeat seven times: ‘A’udhu bi’izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa ‘uhadhiru (I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that afflicts me and that which I apprehend).”‘

Narrated `Aisha:

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say to the patient, “In the Name of Allah The earth of our land and the saliva of some of us cure our patient.”

Ibn ‘Abbas narrated: “For fever, and all pains, the Prophet (S.A.W) would teach them to say: Bismillahil-Kabir; a’udhu billahil-‘Azimi min sharri kulli ‘irqin na’arin, wa min sharri harrin-nar. (In the name of Allah the great, I seek refuge with Allah he magnificent of the evil of every gushing vein, and from the evil of the heat of the Fire)”

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone visits a sick whose time (of death) has not come, and says with him seven times: I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the mighty Throne, to cure you, Allah will cure him from that disease.

Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when he lay down: O Allah, I seek refuge in Thy noble Person and in Thy perfect Words from the evil of what Thou seizest by its forelock; O Allah! Thou removest debt and sin; O Allah! thy troop’s not routed, Thy promise is not broken and the riches of the rich do not avail against Thee. Glory and praise be unto Thee!.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Summayy, the mawla of Abu Bakr from al-Qa’qa ibn Hakim that Kab al-Ahbar said, “Had it not been for some words which I said, the jews would have made me into a donkey.” Someone asked him what they were. He said, “I seek refuge with the immense Face of Allah – there is nothing greater than it – and with the complete words of Allah which neither the good person nor the corrupt can exceed and with all the most beautiful names of Allah, what I know of them and what I do not know, from the evil of what He has created and originated and multiplied.”

Audhu bi wajhi’llahi l-adheem aladhee laysa shay’un adham minh, wa bi kalimati’llahi’t-tammati, alatee la yujawizu hunna barra wa la fajir, wa bi asma’illahi’l-husna kulliha ma alamtu minha wa ma lam alam, min sharri ma khalaqa wa bara’a wa dhara’a.

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed that Jibra’il came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “O Muhammad, you are ill. He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: Bismillahi arqika, min kulli shay’in yu’dhika, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin aw hasidin. Allahu yashfika, bismillahi arqika (In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah heal you. In the Name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you).

Narrated Uthman ibn Affan: Aban ibn Uthman said: I heard Uthman ibn Affan (his father) say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: If anyone says three times: “In the name of Allah, when Whose name is mentioned nothing on Earth or in Heaven can cause harm, and He is the Hearer, the Knower” he will not suffer sudden affliction till the morning, and if anyone says this in the morning, he will not suffer sudden affliction till the evening.

Aban was afflicted by some paralysis and when a man who heard the tradition began to look at him, he said to him: Why are you looking at me? I swear by Allah, I did not tell a lie about Uthman, nor did Uthman tell a lie about the Prophet (ﷺ), but that day when I was afflicted by it, I became angry and forgot to say them.

Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn Said said that he had heard that Khalid ibn al-Walid said to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, “I have nightmares.” The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him, “Say, ‘I seek refuge with the complete words of Allah from His anger and His punishment and the evil of His slaves, and from the evil suggestions of the shayatin and from their being present (at death).’ “

Audhu bi kalimati’ llahi’t-tammati min ghadabihi wa iqabihi wa sharri ibadihi wa min hamazati’ sh-shayatin wa an yahdurun.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain and say: “Your forefather (i.e. Abraham) used to seek Refuge with Allah for Ishmael and Isaac by reciting the following: ‘O Allah! I seek Refuge with Your Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.’ “

Yahya related to me from Malik that Yahya ibn Said said, “When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was taken on the Night Journey, he saw an evil jinn seeking him with a torch of fire. Whenever the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, turned, he saw him. Jibril said to him, ‘Shall I teach you some words to say? When you say them, his torch will be put out and will fall from him.’ The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Yes, indeed.’ Jibril said, ‘Say, ‘I seek refuge with the Noble Face of Allah and with the complete words of Allah which neither the good person nor the corrupt can exceed, from the evil of what descends from the sky and the evil of what ascends in it, and from the evil of what is created in the earth and the evil of what comes out of it, and from the trials of the night and day, and from the visitations of the night and day, except for one that knocks with good, O Merciful!” “‘

Audhu bi wajhi’llahi’ l-karim wa bi kalimati’llahi’t-tammati. Allati la yujawazu hunna barra wa la fajir, min sharri ma yanzil min as-sama, wa sharri ma yaruju fiha, wa sham ma dhara’ fi’l-ard, wa sharri ma yakhruju minha, wa min fitani’l-layli wa’n-nahar, wa min tawariqi’l-layli wa’n-nahar illa tariqan yatruq bikhayr ya Rahman!

It was narrated that ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Abu laila said:

“Abu Laila used to travel with ‘Ali, and he used to wear summer clothes in winter and winter clothes in summer. We said: ‘Why don’t you ask him (about that)?’ He said: “The Messenger of Allah sent for me and my eyes were sore, on the Day of Khaibar. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my eyes are sore.’ He put some spittle into my eyes, then he said: ‘O Allah, take heat and cold away from him.’ I never felt hot or cold again after that day. He (the Prophet) said: ‘I will send a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love, and he is not one who flees from the battlefield.’ The people craned their necks to see, and he sent for ‘Ali and gave it (the banner) to him.”

‘Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:When the Prophet (ﷺ) visited any ailing member of his family, he would touch the sick person with his right hand and would supplicate: “Allahumma Rabban-nasi, adhhibil-ba’sa, washfi, Antash-Shafi, la shifa’a illa shifa’uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman [O Allah! the Rubb of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease].” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when he was in distress: “La ilaha illallahul-Azimul-Halim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbul-‘Arshil-‘Azim. La ilaha illallahu Rabbus-samawati, wa Rabbul-ardi, wa Rabbul-‘Arshil- Karim. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Incomparably Great, the Compassionate. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb of the Mighty Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah the Rubb of the heavens, the Rubb of the earth, and the Rubb of the Honourable Throne).”
